It is spring on the island and Ballantyne Foundation is sponsoring a cooking contest for corn beef and cabbage. Elliot Lisbon is looking for an entry and finds Chief Carmichael standing over his SIL, Lola with a bloody knife. He confesses to the murder and does not want an investigation. Elliot knows Chief Tom is not a killer so starts to explore for reason Chief Tom taking the blame. This plunges Elliot into the chaos of the Carmichael family ‘ affairs. Lola’s daughter Lucy arrives from Texas and brings to charming pug puppies to Elliot. The puppies belong to Lola and her will leaves them to Vivi who will not be back until later in the week. Before Elliot finds the answer to the killing she will experience breaking and entering, a dognapping, Lucy is shot, a marijuana factory, fire. I recommend this book.
